How Our DIY Book Boxes Work

Each Literary Layers Crate is a toolkit for book lovers to personalize their favorite books. Our kits include:

Readers can choose from 2-3 different dust jacket designs for both paperback and hardcover US editions.

Next readers will select a minimum of 5 page overlays from various commissioned artists.

Then, they will pick a matching edge stencil that fits their DIY skillset and preference. Easy designs will include a simple 1-layer process. Medium designs may take a little more attention to detail. While hard designs may include multiple layers to create an intricate design.

NOTE: This is a stencil only. Paint and additional supplies are not included.

In the last step of building a custom book box, readers can select from any optional available add-ons. This can include a heat transfer for a hardcover edition book, coordinating annotating supplies, or matching stickers.

Once readers receive their custom book box, they can use the edge stencil to paint their ordinary edition’s edges. Once it’s dry, they will add their selected dust jacket and place the page overlays in the suggested placements or wherever they desire. Piecing together their unique special edition book!
